Structural strategy for psychological suspense + thriller writers
Your draft exists.
Now make the story work.
For writers who know something isn’t working—but can’t see exactly what. We identify the structural friction, sharpen the escalation, and turn a complicated draft into a concrete revision plan.
Apply for the Intensive
One structural diagnostic.
A clear way forward.
You don’t need another critique. You need to see the architecture.
You’ve written 30,000 words. Maybe 80,000. You know the characters. You know what happens. You may even know how it ends.
But something is off. And after living inside the manuscript for months—or years—you’re too close to diagnose it cleanly.
The Narrative Strategy Intensive
A structural intervention for a manuscript that has stopped making sense to its writer.
This is not line editing, proofreading, ghostwriting, or indefinite coaching. It is a focused three-session consulting engagement designed to find the narrative spine of your book and determine what needs to change—and why.
Structural Diagnostic
A written assessment of the manuscript’s central structural friction.
Story Spine
Beginning, middle, and end clarity anchored to the book you are actually writing.
Escalation Map
Analysis of stakes, pressure, reversals, and narrative momentum.
Revision Priorities
A sequenced plan so you know what to fix first—and what can wait.
30–60 Day Roadmap
A practical execution plan for getting the revision onto the page.
How it works
Three conversations. Each with a job.
The Conversation
We meet live to identify the manuscript’s structural friction: what the book is trying to do, where it loses force, and what questions the revision actually needs to answer.
The Architecture
We work through the structural diagnostic and escalation map. We clarify the narrative spine, pressure points, missing turns, and material that may no longer belong.
The Revision Plan
We convert the analysis into a prioritized roadmap. You leave knowing what to change, in what order, and what each change is meant to accomplish.
For the writer who has pages—not just an idea.
This is a fit if…
- You write psychological suspense or thrillers.
- You have at least 30,000 words or a complete draft.
- You can feel a structural problem but can’t isolate it.
- You want rigorous outside analysis, not someone to rewrite the book for you.
- You’re ready to make substantive changes when the story requires them.
This isn’t designed for…
- Writers who are still choosing a book idea.
- Line-by-line editing or proofreading.
- Ongoing weekly accountability.
- Ghostwriting or done-for-you revision.
- A quick verdict on whether your manuscript is “good.”

About Aime Austin
I’ve spent more than twenty years figuring out why stories work.
I’m the author of more than thirty novels across psychological suspense, legal thriller, romance, and women’s fiction, as well as memoir and essays. I’m a Cornell Law–trained former attorney and a Mystery Writers of America Barbara Neely Scholarship recipient.
My particular strength is structural: seeing the architecture underneath a manuscript—where the narrative loses momentum, where the stakes fail to escalate, where a character’s choices aren’t driving the story, and where the book you’re trying to write has gotten buried beneath the book you’ve already written.
I also host A Time to Thrill, where I talk with working writers about the craft, careers, and decisions behind the books readers ultimately see.
Investment
Focused enough to create momentum. Deep enough to change the draft.
Three-session Narrative Strategy Intensive + written structural analysis + revision roadmap.
Application required. Applicants should have at least 30,000 words completed or a full draft.
Questions
Before you apply.
Do you read my entire manuscript?
The intensive is designed around structural diagnosis rather than a traditional full-manuscript editorial letter. Your application and initial conversation establish what material is needed to diagnose the book effectively; the scope can then be confirmed before the engagement begins.
Is this developmental editing?
There is overlap in the questions we examine, but the format is different. The emphasis is live strategic analysis, narrative architecture, and a prioritized plan you can execute—not line edits or an exhaustive page-by-page editorial pass.
What genres do you work with?
The Intensive is currently focused on psychological suspense and thriller manuscripts, where escalation, revelation, pressure, and narrative architecture are especially central to the reading experience.
What if I only have an idea or outline?
This offer is for writers who already have substantial pages. Applicants should have at least 30,000 words or a complete draft.
Will you tell me how to rewrite the book?
You’ll receive concrete structural recommendations and a prioritized revision roadmap. The creative decisions remain yours; the purpose is to give you enough clarity to make those decisions deliberately.
